I just celebrated 2 and a half years clean and I can honestly say that I feel and look better than I have in my entire life. My boys are happy and my life is stable, I am so grateful that Nathan took time for me and wrote this because I do reflect on it quite often.

Thanks for the feedback. This virulent strain of conservativism infecting the air here in Wisconsin sure has brought out the worst in many. I used to think McKenna offered a rationale counterpoint to some of the left’s wackier ideas here in Madison. Now she just seems driven by conservative-think, whipping her followers into a frenzy that, in another time or place, might be dangerous so vengeful they are toward not just differing opinions, but those who voice them.

Thanks Nate, for being the actual responsible journalist in this situation. For actually, I dunno, getting a followup statement from the source. And damn you Nate because for a good part of the last hour I’ve been trying to wrap my head around what a “specialist” in back hair mitigation is. And why this character, Peter Weghorn, is using such words as “bitter, unsuccessful, unhappy, and bringing little merit into metiocracy”. I’m pretty sure the back waxing specialist is projecting his own insecurities onto Nancy. It’s just astounding how fast the “shoot first, ask questions later” ethos runs inherently rampant in these little conservative keyboard tough guys/girls.Common sense tells me to engage, question, create further dialogue, and get to the root of a controversy objectively until it is actually proven to be a cause for alarm. A task the Capital Police easily handled. Not surprisingly Vicki McKenna and her brood are physically incapable of being able to hone in on those qualities.

Nathan, thank you for writing this important story. It’s an all too common sick dynamic: abuse of power and then vilifying the victim if he or she speaks up about it. I’m beginning to believe bullying and hatred of others is now a platform plank of the conservative agenda. These people are missing a critical adult skill: empathy, being able to take another’s point of view, putting yourself in another’s shoes. That seemed to be the victim’s observation, as well, when she said maybe if Governor Walker’s wife and daughter had been raped, like she and her daughter had been, he might have compassion, or at least have an understanding of why funds for victim services should not be cut.Thank you for your writings. Please keep them coming.

My grandfather owned a welding shop just off s. main St. He was fascinated by the gypsies and befrinded them, much to the consternation of my grandmother, who feared they would steal from him. They never did; he allowed them to park their wagons in the parking lot next to his shop; he occasionally welded broken axles for them during the 1920s-30s. My mother and aunt have good memories of them.

John Foust: It’s worse than that. If the daughter had been any younger, it would have been a felony under Wis. Stats. 948.02: “(3) FAILURE TO ACT. A person responsible for the welfare of a child who has not attained the age of 16 years is guilty of a ClassF felony if that person has knowledge that another person intends to have, is having or has had sexual intercourse or sexual contact with the child, is physically and emotionally capable of taking action which will prevent the intercourse or contact from takingplace or being repeated, fails to take that action and the failure to act exposes the child to an unreasonable risk that intercourse or contact may occur between the child and the other person or facilitates the intercourse or contact that does occur between the child and the other person.”She was lucky. Ah, Wisconsin.
